Earth Day | April 22, 1970. I planted a tree on the first Earth Day. My husband planted a tree too — and his is still standing. We look at it from his parents’ breakfast window several times a year.

I wore earth shoes, plastered the school in “Save the Earth” posters, and sang songs in celebration — the lyrics were pretty weird but refrains of “hello carbon dioxide, goodbye carbon monoxide” still run through my mind on Earth Day.

Earth Day | April 22, 2009. Green has gained momentum and made its way into our businesses. So, for this year’s Earth Day I spent some time looking around our technology office to see if I could spot any green at all. A week later, my list of the 3 R’s at Worthwhile looks like this:

Tutorial: Transparent Overlay Image Menus

Transparency is a rising trend in the web design world. With CSS3, RGBa, and transparent PNG support in more browsers, designers have taken full advantage of the unique possibilities available through these techniques while still being able to adhere to web standards. For example: Silverback uses transparency to achieve a parallax with it’s background and this year’s 24 Ways barely has any opaque elements at all!

One of the trendiest Web tools of this decade has been the blog. Blogging got so popular, that Google “paid” attention and bought Blogger, adding it to its portfolio of engrafted Web tools. With its popoularity, blogging also got some flack, since anybody and everybody could blog. So what was initially denounced by some as a juvenile opportunity to air out ignorance on the Web has now been embraced by the corporate world as virtually a necessary Web activity.
