4 Favorite Things About the iPhone 4

I’ve had an iPhone 4 for a little over a month now. I upgraded from a iPhone 3GS and the difference is extraordinary. Allow me to review my 4 favorite features.

Sell Your Video Camera and Buy an iPhone 4
I’m really excited about smart phones coming with HD video. I no longer need a separate device to record great video. Attention Droid users: I know your phones now have HD video, too. I’m already shooting more video than ever and taking up a lot more hard drive space.

When it Comes to the Screen, Believe the Hype
The Retina Display must be seen to be believed. It really is every bit as crisp and clear as Apple says it is. 30 days later it still amazes me. I know it is the same size but the screen seems larger. The effects of the upgraded screen are felt everywhere but especially when browsing the web.

What Reception Issue?
I’m left handed. Supposedly, people who are left handed experience the issue more often. However, in my personal experience, the reception of the iPhone 4 is noticeably better than my iPhone 3GS. Now, I know it is a problem for some. All I’m saying is that I haven’t been a victim of antennagate thus far. There, I said it. The reception is one of my favorite things about the iPhone 4.

FaceTime is Better at Video Chat than my iMac
Video chat has always felt awkward to me. Awkward to schedule. Awkward back and forth during the conversation. Just awkward. I still can’t figure out how they made the audio so clear and and removed any hint of lag from the video. Furthermore, it is so easy to initiate a video call that I’m using it a lot.

Do you have an iPhone 4? I’d love to hear what you think.

A Note for Android Users
I know you have all these features on your phones — some of them you’ve had for awhile now. I’ve never used an Android phone so I’d love to hear how your experience has been.

Unfortunately, I fall in the same boat just on the other side of the fence as I’ve only owned/used the Droid. I’ve been finding the physical keyboard less & less useful of late. No problems with connection, lag, etc. I’m not a big picture/video person. I do find running multiple apps to be essential (pandora). For my first smartphone, I have to say it’s a win for me. The OS updates have definitely improved the experience though as I’m now on my 3rd or 4th update from the original OS version. And though it’s not solely attributable to the phone itself, I find the dock functionality extremely useful as well.

I’ve been an iphone user since they came out. Loved the phone. Hated the service. Just got the Droid X and the things I’m missing is the ability to use Skype mobile over wifi, great battery life, and syncing with my itunes. What I’ve enjoyed about the X is being able to make calls at my home office, in crowded areas, and on 253. The screen is also massive making it easier to type. One feature that comes in really handy when driving is the speech to text option. So easy to reply to texts while driving. You just push a button and speak your text. The multimedia, haven’t used it a lot. But the mechanical shutter and 8megapixel camera is great! Waiting for my extended battery to come to help with battery life. Can’t wait to see if iphone for verizon rumor is true! May have to revert back. Although having everything sync ota for free and not paying for mobile me is nice…

Synching over the air would be really nice to have in iOS. Plugging in to sync is even more of a hassle when you also have an iPad. Here’s hoping Apple can bring that to iOS in the near future!

    Thanks for your comments, folks!

  • The thing I hate about the iPhone 4 is continually trying to avoid being on WIFI so I can escape Rundle calling me with that face video thingie. It’s a PHONE Rundle, not a TV!

Glad you are enjoying the apple kookaid! :-)
Here’s some counter propaganda. I have had my iPhone 4 for two months. Maybe the extra month reveals the flaws.

    1. Camera shots look much brighter on latest droid, unless I use the camera

    2. Several of the apps I use daily run noticeably slower after a few days — assume multitasking issues

    3. Multitasking support is pitiful and not what a true premeptive mt os should do

    4. Reception stinks. Places my 3 worked on Paris mountain DO NOT WORK on my 4

    5. KEEP YOUR HD video recorder — no zoom

    6. I lost several apps during the upgrade

    Nice device? Yes.
Better than latest droid? I don’t think so
Still associated with world’s worst network? Afraid so
