One of the trendiest Web tools of this decade has been the blog. Blogging got so popular,
that Google “paid” attention and bought Blogger, adding it to its portfolio of engrafted Web tools. With its popoularity, blogging also got some flack, since anybody and everybody could blog. So what was initially denounced by some as a juvenile opportunity to air out ignorance on the Web has now been embraced by the corporate world as virtually a necessary Web activity.
Blogs are considered dynamic media, since they employ RSS feed, allowing users to subscribe and receive feeds in almost any way they choose. What’s also dynamic about blogs is that they can be used in a variety of ways, kind of like the peanut, right G.W. Carver? So, you’re afraid you won’t have expert advice to give consumers and peers every day? Well, you’re ok, because that’s not the only way to “blog.”
Blogging software, like WordPress, can be used like a platform to deliver podcasts, video updates, and news updates. Needless to say, it’s never been easier to keep your users current on what’s happening, whether you’re a non-profit or a corporate entity looking to keep pace in the era of social media.
One of our clients, Langston Middle, a Greenville, SC middle school, needed a way to keep parents and the community up-to-date on a weekly basis. We implemented WordPress and called it a “bulletin board” rather than a blog.
“Blogging” doesn’t seem as intimidating when you don’t have to fit a certain mold. Give your blog a unique name. And no matter what you do, add value to your users through what you post. You can have a blog without blogging. Get started today!
