With persistence and research over three days, I worked with an email client so that she could not only receive her email, but also send it.

We had a client who could receive email, but not send it. This is not a good situation for anyone, let alone one of our clients! Unfortunately, her email application was not helpful, and she wasn’t getting any error dialogs that would help me solve her problem. At one point during the first day we were sure we had the problem fixed, but it showed up again the next day. For three days she and I worked together on the phone, via email and with me remotely connected to her computer. I spent a lot of time researching online and trying various ideas, and I finally ended up having to trick the application she was working in!

After all of this I am glad to say we have — Problem = fixed, Client = happy!

Last year, over 40 million people in North America surfed or worked wirelessly.

Introduction

With the growing popularity and accessibility of wireless computer networks comes an increased interest in privacy and security. Last year, over 40 million people in North America surfed or worked wirelessly. Whether you access the internet via a wireless network provided by your local Starbucks, your public library, or your neighbor, there are some important things you should consider.

The Definition

- Wi-Fi: the most commonly used wireless network in computer systems. Wi-Fi is the generic term for wireless fidelity and specifies an over-the-air interface between a wireless client and a base station or between two wireless clients.

- Secure network: requires a password to access the network. A secure network is the safest way to surf the web wirelessly.

The Explanation

Wi-Fi networks enable Internet access by broadcasting radio waves that are picked up by a Wi-Fi receiver on another computer. Anyone can try to break into a network broadcasting a signal, thus there is an increased need for security. You can secure your network by setting up a unique user id and password. It’s best to keep your username generic, as anyone can see it by surfing for wireless connections.

The Reason

Benefits of a Wi-Fi network:

Convenience. You can take your laptop with you and easily connect to the Internet at any place that provides Wi-Fi access.

Simplicity. You don’t have to worry about confusing, cluttered wires. You can connect with the click of a mouse.

Universality. You can find Wi-Fi access in numerous locations.

Benefits of a secure Wi-Fi network:

Protection. You can protect your identity, credit card numbers, and online bank account.

The Solution

Password protect your personal wireless network. Otherwise who knows what kind of neighbors may have access to your network.

Never access private information over an open network. Anyone can tap into the network and have access to your information.

Use secure TLS email.
