I love doing puzzles! I’ve even had the opportunity of doing a 3D one with a few friends. After 5 hours we had a small replica of the Capitol Building. I guess that is one of the reasons why I enjoy developing websites – to me it is like putting together a puzzle. (more...) [...]

The Internet is Hard: a Case of Mistaken Identity
As someone who has been interacting with computers since preschool (maybe even before then), it's hard to remember that some people don't know what a URL is or the difference between a browser and a search engine. We all have at least one friend or relative that can hardly operate a computer and always needs help doing some mundane process. It's easy to write off these people, because surely they must be a miniscule percentage of internet users. (more...) [...]

The Cross Browser Conundrum
In my opinion, one of the most frustrating things about web design is cross-browser compatibility. What are we as web designers up against? A 60% usage share of Internet Explorer, the bane of the web designer's existence. Microsoft in this browser has blatantly disregarded CSS standards and tried to reinvent the wheel by rendering CSS how they thought it should be rendered. (more...) [...]

Progressive Enhancement with CSS3
The terms progressive enhancement and graceful degradation have been floating around the web for a little over a year now. The Misunderstood Purpose of Web Design
I'm not a designer. Hope that doesn't turn you off. I do, however, interact with a lot of web design work, since I project manage and strategize on multiple web design projects each month. Universal Mistake/Misunderstanding Typically, from my experience, clients/decision-makers evaluate design purely from an aesthetic viewpoint, which doesn't get past the first visual impression of the site design. Perpetuating Your Brand Through Web Design
It's all Dave's fault. OK. So it's not really a problem. Dave Ruse, our Creative Director, has focused on branding in his last two blog posts (one | two). In the second post ("two"), Dave effectively pushes the idea that your brand does not merely consist of your logo, design colors, etc. His point is that a brand is an experience or an environment -- it's bigger than just colors and pixels. You pay for what you get.
Sometimes if people have never been involved in getting a website launched, they can be shocked at the price range for services. What is the difference between the under $500 website and the $150,000 website? Sometimes the differences of these sites are in the website design, both in the graphic elements as well as the information design. (more...) [...]

Message Affects Means
It’s typography week! While this is an exciting topic for me as a designer, hopefully by Friday you’ll be able to see the value and appreciate the power of well set type. (more...)
