Yesterday, I read something that made me think about humility and the willingness to learn.
This quotation is taken from Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Gold Book of Yes! Attitude, “People who are cocky and arrogant say, ‘I know that’ and move along. People who are confident and positive ask themselves, ‘How good am I at that?’ and seek to improve.”
The book of Proverbs in the Bible is full of similar admonitions to seek wisdom and to increase in learning through humility. Proverbs 9:7-9 says, “Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.”
This verse and quotation remind us all of the importance of seeking ways we can improve. If we’re not asking for feedback or searching for weaknesses to root out, then we are losing an opportunity for growth.
