Dan, Chris, Brandon, and I went to Raleigh, NC to attend the 2009 Internet Summit. The day was jam packed with speakers and sessions, and we enjoyed every bit of it. We have come back with a little more inspiration from some leaders in the industry, and we are excited to put some of their suggestions to use. The following are some of my favorite quotes from the Summit.

  • John Kosner, the Senior Vice President of ESPN Digital Media had a great deal of wisdom to impart. He spoke on how they’ve changed their site recently–which actually led to a 35% revenue increase. He said “simplicity, easy to find, easy on the eyes, and listen to your customers” were the keys to their current site design.
  • After a mobile strategies session, I spoke with Andrew Lacy, the COO of Tapulous. We discussed what the future of the internet on mobile devices would look like. He said technology of the phones will improve to read more sites, coding will improve, companies will focus more on mobile sites, and “more companies will create apps for access to their sites since app shortcuts speak to human nature’s desire for instant access.”
  • Joseph Dickerson, User Experience Architect at Fiserv, on Design and Usability, “The context that your users are operating in, determines the content that should be there. People who are half asleep or medicated should still be able to use the site easily.”
  • Dan Forootan, President of Streamsend on Analytics, “Ask your client about their typical client, and it’s often different than what they thought–the data will tell an unexpected story. So… focus on the research and then choose to act on it!”
  • Matt Berry, CTO & Co-founder of Digitalsmiths on Online Video developments, “The last 18 months has been a huge shift [in the way video is presented on the web], and the next 18 months will probably be even bigger.”

I am hoping to elaborate on some of the things I learned throughout some of my coming blog posts, so look out.
