While reading through a list of quotations today, I came across one that I really liked: “A smooth sea never made a skilled mariner.” It’s a fantastic viewpoint to have. I could be having a frustrating day because so many things are being thrown at me, or I could choose to learn from the frustrations and acquire some new skills. If all I ever wish for in life is an easy road instead of one paved with difficulty or challenges, I am missing out on many opportunities to learn!
My friends know that I often say, “You’ve got to have the bad days to have the good.” Every bad or mediocre day gives me a new chance to see what I’m doing wrong and fix it. Also, if all of your days were fantastic, how boring would your life be? No excitement, no opportunity for change or advancement.
Take some time today to revel in a choppy sea by learning the most about your company or yourself. Find out what you can do to make the bad days educational. When you do that, you’ll be surprised at how you can use what you’ve learned when the next wave hits!
