What’s the Point?

Clients sometimes come to us knowing they need to rebrand or have a new logo created before developing their website. We don’t do branding, of course; we send them to some of our trusted friends. We focus specifically on the technology side, but we still understand the necessity of a well developed logo and coordinating brand identity.

What’s the purpose of a brand? Is it to impress with aesthetics, or is it to communicate a message? I hope you answered both! A good brand will be both beautiful and functional.

I read this article recently, and I thought the author did a good job of explaining why a good brand is not just important–it’s crucial. Brooks points out six things that a good brand will do. I think consistency is my favorite of the points. Brand confusion can make it difficult for your clients to understand all that you do, and consistency streamlines your efforts to communicate everything you do in a concise way.

Think about your brand. Is it reaching out the right audience? Is it consistent? Does it explain what you do? Is it focused on what you like or on what your clients will like?
